stillness of mind
Mindfulness
“Mindfulness is the awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally”
Jon Kabat-Zinn
Mindfulness can be both a formal and informal practice, sometimes sat with a specific focus as you would image meditation to be and sometimes being incorporated into daily habits where you practice being very focused on what you are doing, be it brushing your teeth, doing the dishwasher or listening to another person.
It allows us to interrupt the automatic pilot that many of our days follow and experience each moment with more attention.
The eight week MBCT course (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy) teaches these formal and informal practices so you can incorporate them into your daily life. It takes ancient meditation practices and mixes them with the science of cognitive therapy, allowing us to learn skills that help us live in the modern world. With these skills life can feel a bit more balanced and we can deal more easily with the ups and downs it often throws at us.
